Valentines Day Cherry Pie

Updated: Feb 3, 2023

Happy February!

Starting out the month or should I say "love" month with a simple yet sweet treat! This Cherry Pie is delicious and so easy to make using only 4 ingredients. It's definitely a hit in our home so I wanted to share with you all how to make it! Pies are always a favorite of mine because you can get so creative with the crust designs as well as the flavor of filling you use.

Prep Time: 25 minutes

Cook Time: 40-45 minutes

Ingredients you need:

Filling flavor of choice x2

1 Egg

1 tsp. of Water

You will also need a 9" Pie Dish ,

Basting Brush, Silicone Mat, Aluminum Foil & Heart-Shaped Cookie Cutters

*You will use the basting brush to egg wash the top of your crust before placing in the oven & the Aluminum Foil to wrap your crust to prevent overcooking/burning*

Step One

Start by preheating your over to 425 degrees.

Roll out your Pie Crust on your silicone mat. I've found that the mats work best so the crust doesn't stick when you go to remove it & place on your pie. You will then place your heart-shaped cookie cutters of assorted sizes ,press firmly then remove the cut out crust. Don't throw these away just yet though because you will use them to decorate the top of the crust. 3D accents is what I like to call it. Once you have cut out your hearts you will want to then place the second crust into the pie dish.

Step Two:

After placing your crust into the Pie Dish you will then add your filling. I love to use Lucky Leaf Pie Fillings for simple recipes not to mention the flavor is great! You can find the product at Walmart amongst a variety of other flavors that they offer. (linked with ingredients above)

Step Three

Carefully pick up and place your top crust with the heart cutouts onto your pie. The easiest way to do this would most likely be to use a rolling pin to hold the crust for you then place it but everyone is different. I prefer to just use my hands. After placing the crust you will then fold the excess under to meet the bottom crust, press to seal as well as creating the crimped look by pressing the crust in and out.

Step Four

Mix One Egg & about half a teaspoon of water to create what is called an Egg Wash. I've known people to also use Milk and Water combined but this is the way I normally do it. Take your basting brush to lightly brush your egg wash onto the entire pie. Be sure to get everything as this prevents the crust from burning or cooking too quickly!

Step Five

The last step is to bake the pie! After about 10 or so minutes of baking, pull the pie out to add your aluminum foil around the edges of the crust. Alongside the egg wash this will also prevent the edges from cooking too quickly & burning. Pop back into the oven and continue baking for about 35 more minutes. Once the the allowed baking time is up, take your pie out and let sit to cool then enjoy!
